The Ireland-U.S. Council Foundation

The Ireland-U.S. Council Foundation, Inc. is a 501(C)(3) Charitable Foundation that helps support student work experience programs between Ireland and the U.S. as well as cultural programs supporting the Arts in Ireland.

The Blueprint Ireland Initiative

The Ireland-U.S. Council Foundation's Blueprint Ireland project carries out non-partisan research across a range of business sectors. The Blueprint Ireland initiative promotes non-partisan research, study, debate and understanding on the challenges and opportunities of the economic future for the entire island of Ireland.

We measure, cost and compare options for a future Ireland, with a focus on maximizing the opportunities that could emerge from any future change on the island.

We review our research and reports with other organizations, institutions and interested parties, and we communicate our findings in the business community in Ireland and the United States and in the media.

We are developing evaluation a framework to ensure coherence -- so that all elements of our research work together, and can be costed as a whole.

We aim to provide for Irish Americans and all friends of Ireland an opportunity to contribute in a thoughtful and non-partisan way to the discussion on the future of the island of Ireland.

Our mission is to help shape a future Ireland through non-partisan research, analysis and education across a range of business sectors.

In 2023, Irish unification, in some form, is in the media on both sides of the Atlantic. The news stories and discussions come as a result of Brexit, as well as demographic and other changes on the island of Ireland.

If there is to be constitutional change in Ireland, it will happen peacefully. Under the Good Friday Agreement, the 1998 international accord sponsored by the United States, Britain’s Secretary of State for Northern Ireland may call a referendum. If it is passed, and there is similar support in the Republic of Ireland, then sovereignty for Northern Ireland changes from London to Dublin.

No one can predict the future; this could happen in 10, 20 or 50 years’ time – or never – but a sudden or unplanned change could cause insecurity, and bring negative consequences for business, the economy and society.

Imagine, instead, if we could harness the support and expertise of Irish Americans to prepare, to develop a plan – a blueprint – that will maximize the opportunities of change, and contribute to making the Ireland of the future the best it can be.

A project of the Ireland-U.S. Council Foundation, Blueprint Ireland’s rigorous and independent research will help shape the future of the island, and further strengthen the bonds between the United States and Ireland for many decades into the future.
